Church membership can mean different things to different people depending on background and former experiences. Through participation at Triumphant Love, you can learn a lot about our congregation. All people are welcome in any aspect of TLLC’s life and ministry, and we hope this helps you gain insight into our faith community. However, it is through membership that we partner with one another and our Lord to carry out the mission and ministry of our congregation.
Those who choose to become members do so at a worship service on a designated Sunday. The new members make several public statements of commitment together as an entire group. Likewise, the whole congregation as a faith community will make public commitments to you as new members. We do this as a Reaffirmation of Baptism, something all of us can do at important times in our lives. The process should not be viewed as repudiation or abandonment of previous Christian affiliation, but as a promise to live out your baptism at this time and place in partnership with this community of Christians.
Attending our New Member Class Series is a great way to learn more about Triumphant Love, Lutheranism, and Christianity. These classes are for those interested in diving deeper into faith through a commitment to membership in our community.
Classes occur in the fall and spring. They meet for 3 consecutive Sundays and include reviewing the Lutheran faith and tradition using Luther’s Small Catechism, meeting our staff and ministry leaders, and hearing the many ways you can become involved in our shared ministry.
New members are paired with mentor families of a similar stage in life to assist them in assimilating into our congregation. A reception is hosted for all to welcome new members. “Joining Sunday” typically happens following the final class.
