Six week class: April 19/202, 2023 – May 24/25, 2023
Wednesdays Online @ 1pm
Thursdays @ 1pm, Community Classroom
Join Pastor Danielle for this six-week study to inspire us to brave faith. As Christians, we do our best to live our lives as Jesus lived, following the examples of his many virtues—including honesty, faithfulness, and generosity. But one virtue that is often overlooked is courage. Throughout Jesus’ life, he was called upon to be brave: in the face of his enemies, when being tempted, and certainly at the time of his death. By examining the life of Christ, we can begin to understand what true courage is and how God works in our lives when we exhibit a brave faith. In Courage: Jesus and the Call to Brave Faith, pastor and author Tom Berlin challenges us to unlock the courage that we already possess as Christ followers, and in doing so, we can begin to find the remarkable life Jesus offers us.

Class Schedule:
April 19/20 The Clarity of Courage
For our first session we will examine “The Clarity of Courage.” If you have a book read the introduction and chapter 1. We’ll discuss Berlin’s conviction that much of Jesus’ courage comes from the clarity he has about his identity and mission and how we too can find clarity about these things in our faith life. We will use Luke 4:16-21 – the story of Jesus teaching in his hometown synagogue – as our scripture.
April 26/27 The Conviction of Courage
For our second session we will examine “The Conviction of Courage.” If you have a book read Chapter 2. We’ll discuss Berlin’s supposition that much of Jesus’ courage comes from the conviction that he has in a moment and is able to sustain by the Holy Spirit and how we too can find conviction (or more likely how conviction will find us. We will use Luke 10:13-17 – the story of Jesus healing on the sabbath – as our scripture.
May 3 (no Thurs) The Candor of Courage
For our third session we will examine “The Candor of Courage.” If you have a book read Chapter 3. We’ll discuss Berlin’s supposition that much of Jesus’ courage comes from the vulnerability of speaking candidly, which allows our own courage to grow and gives another person room to be courageous too. We will use Luke 7:36-50 – the story of the woman anointing Jesus with her tears – as our scripture.
May 10/11 The Hope of Courage

May 17/18 The Fortitude of Courage
