This Old Lutheran sticker says it all… Love is greater than everything else. But love is difficult because all of those words in grey are pervasive in our world and often in our own hearts. Love is difficult and so are mercy and forgiveness, and all three are woven in our scriptures for this Sunday.
Love. Mercy. Forgiveness. Joseph lives it in Egypt. Jesus preaches it in the gospel. The Spirit of God’s love guides us into merciful lives with the power of forgiveness to reconcile what is fractured and divided. Such living is the baptismal blessing of having put on Christ. It is the gift of the life-giving Spirit. It is a reflection of God’s glory revealed in Christ. As we follow Christ, we too – like Joseph – are called to forGIVE for GOOD.
The scriptures for this Sunday are Genesis 43:5-11, 15, Psalm 37:1-11, 39-40, and Luke 6:27-38. The songs for this Sunday are “Indescribable”, “Mighty to Save” and “Can’t Stop Singing”.
