Mother Mary

mother mary jesus

This Sunday we take a break from bread as it is Mary, Mother of Our Lord Sunday. Maybe it’s because it’s back to school time or maybe it’s my stage in life and my own experience of motherhood that has got me thinking about Mary as teacher of Jesus. We think of her in so many ways – mother of Jesus, God bearer (Theotokos), disciple – and with many descriptions – questioning, brave, humble, strong, virgin, musical. Might the words of Mary’s Magnificent Magnificat give us a glimpse into what she taught Jesus as he grew up? Might her song have influenced his ministry? Join us Sunday as we explore these questions and listen to “Mother Mary whisper words of wisdom” (“Let It Be,” The Beatles).

The scriptures for this Sunday are Isaiah 61:7-11, Galatians 4:4-7, and Luke 1:46-55. Songs for this Sunday are #731 “Earth & All Stars” see bulletin, “For All the Faithful Women” see bulletin, and #723 “Canticle of the Turning” vs. 1-2.
