TLLC Tours Candlelight Ranch

After learning about Candlelight Ranch in a Faith in Action class, a group from Triumphant Love visited the Ranch in May.

Candlelight Ranch helps children and families learn, explore and heal through nature. They partner with community groups, nonprofits and schools to provide interactive, outdoor  learning programs and experiences. Over 1700 children and families visit the Ranch each year. Normally one group is hosted at a time. Activities are customized for all types of groups including special needs children and families, foster families, military and veteran families, underserved youth, and survivors of trauma.

This 40-acre ranch overlooks Lake Travis, off FM 1431 past Lago Vista and the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. The property is part of the Colorado River Land Trust. It’s a beautiful location, and the fields were covered with colorful wildflowers when we visited.

The Ranch was founded in 1999 by the Barr family and staffed by volunteers until 2007. Now there are eight employees. Our tour was led by Executive Director, Jenn Hartner, Program Director, Lynette Holtz, and Board (and TLLC) member, Russ Miller.

Candlelight Ranch has plenty of outdoor experiences for all ages and abilities. The Treehouse is a popular spot for gathering and learning. Guests can stay in the Treehouse or in tents or teepees.

Chillville provides a cool and refreshing break for the guests during the summer months. Guests can also enjoy fishing, kayaking, and canoeing.

Three zip lines are stretched across the canyons.

The property also has a climbing tower, playground, challenge course, archery range, food forest / garden, and stable.
