Waste Management Plan Kick-Off
Beginning the week of September 7, 2025, TLLC is rolling out its new Waste Management Plan. The plan was developed by our Care of Creation team in conjunction with our Director of Operations, Geoff Roach. In our Care-for-Creation Covenant, we commit ourselves “to assess the impact that our activities . . . have upon creation, including… recycling and waste management.” We also commit ”to promote care of creation in our gatherings, using sustainable products, practices, and food choices.”
The goal of the plan is to reduce the amount of waste which we send to the landfill. This will be accomplished by providing opportunities to direct our waste for recycling and composting programs. The waste management company that we use operates a recognized recycling program and commercial compost program to reduce the waste directed to its landfill, and we will partner with them in our effort. You will now see that all rooms and classrooms in the building have two waste containers:
a BLUE container for recyclable materials

and a BLACK container for landfill waste.

We have also set up four waste stations in the building; one each in the fellowship hall/kitchen, youth room, parlor, and main building hallway (adjacent to the coke machine).

BLACK labeled containers for landfill waste

BLUE labeled containers will be for recyclable materials

GREEN labeled containers for compostable waste

Signs and pictures will help you define your waste and where it should be placed.
To help you with your decision making, the church will now supply all event and meal supplies. Our plates, bowls, utensils, and cups will be of sustainable sources and compostable. They will be certified compostable and PFAS free. These items are the largest volume waste we generate at events and can now go into one container, the GREEN compost container. Look for it at our waste stations. For some events, we will be more intentional in using our washable plates and silverware.
Thank you for your help as we become more sustainable at TLLC.
