A community event sponsored by a church to celebrate All Hallow’s Eve? Yes please!
Triumphant Love Lutheran Church (TLLC) has been hosting Trunk or Treat for the church and community for many years. TLLC doesn’t shy away from sponsoring activities which provide integration of the church members, preschool, and the community it surrounds and supports. If anything, this event has grown significantly larger. What started with just a few trunks has now grown to provide a church parking lot full of volunteers from the church and preschool cramming into every available space to open their car trunks and share candy, fruit, stickers, and toys to children (and adults!) in the Northwest Austin area.

Car trunks are not the only activity which is provided. TLLC has grown this event to include carnival style games, karaoke (quite a bit of Taylor Swift has been sung), face painting, costume and trunk competitions, playtime on the church playground, and so much food. This past year boasted grilled to order hot dogs and Bush’s chicken, Kona Ice snowcones, chips, and pink lemonade. The adults love all the options as much as the children! One of the best costumes we’ve seen has been a carnival barker with his very own game of ball toss which he actually wore. We love to see the creativity and energy that is put into costumes and trunks. This is not just open up your trunk and give out candy. Oh no. We’ve seen trunks which support sports (UT and Texas A&M are very popular), gone under the sea, been on a pirate ship, and enjoyed so many Halloween trunks decked out in typical Halloween style.

The best part about Trunk of Treat though is the community in and around the church who attends. We’ve met so many individuals in our community who have just moved in, live across the street, came to be with their grandkids, drove by and saw the event posted on our electronic sign, are looking for a reason not to cook dinner, and sheer curiosity. We welcome everyone and this past year we had a record breaking number of trunks and people who came to “treat.” Each year is a little different, but the spirit of community remains the same. We are looking forward to Trunk of Treat on OCTOBER 25, 2026! See you there!
