2018 Endowment Ministry Grant Report
The Endowment wishes to thank everyone who has so generously supported and donated to the fund this year. We received a record number of applications for the grants and your support helped fund the most grants to date! Because of your gracious support, the Endowment was able to fund these grant awards in 2018:
Outreach and Unrestricted Fund Grants totaling $20,000, were awarded to:
Any Baby Can, Basic Needs Assistance – Funds received from the TLLC Endowment will be used to provide specific basic needs assistance to families experiencing medical hardships. Assistance may cover transportation expenses, durable medical equipment, consumable medical supplies not covered by health insurance, temporary lodging for family members during treatment, medications not covered by health insurance, rent assistance during active treatment, food assistance during active treatment, childcare for siblings, etc. The Endowment grant will help seven families.
Assistance League of Austin, Buck’s Barn – The Buck’s Barn project, for vulnerable children at Dell Children’s Medical Center, enables patients to select gifts, once each year, to give to family members during the holiday season. This program enables young patients, who would not otherwise be able to ‘give’ during the holidays, an opportunity and indeed the joy, to give back to those who have given so much to them. The Endowment grant will help twelve children.
Austin Diaper Bank, Disability Diaper Distribution Program – Austin Diaper Bank expects to help 7,000 children and adults this year, including many children with disabilities by providing diapers, wipes, and diaper cream to families who need basic assistance with this immediate need. The Endowment grant will help 180 people in need.
Caritas of Austin, Employment Services for Individuals Transitioning out of Homelessness – Caritas works to connect clients to industries and career paths that match their interests and create long-term stability. The Endowment’s grant will enable Caritas to help 3 people by providing vocational training and support leading to a reliable living wage job.
Child Development Center of TLLC, Scholarship Fund – The TLLC Endowment’s scholarship fund offers need based scholarships to our families reducing the amount of tuition they have to pay. Its scholarship fund is granted to families based on the number of family members, all sources of income, hardships, and length of need. This grant from the TLLC Endowment will enable a family to keep their children enrolled in 2019.
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Travis County, Direct Assistance for Children in Foster Care – The Direct Assistance Program steps in when foster families don’t have the means to provide resources for a foster child to have what most of us take for granted, things like camp, or playing on a sports or cheerleading team, clothes and shoes for school or even a birthday party. The Endowment’s grant will allow CASA to provide 15 foster children with these very basic childhood experiences.
Lutheran Campus Ministry of Austin, Daily Bread Student Food Pantry – The Daily Bread program seeks to live out the prayer Christ teaches us to pray by providing nutritious staple food items for food insecure students at UT. The Endowment grant will enable Lutheran Campus Ministry to help 175 food insecure students.
Mothers’ Milk Bank at Austin, Charitable Care Program –The Charitable Care Program provides donor milk to medically fragile babies outside of a hospital setting whose families are on Medicaid, uninsured, or lack financial means. These babies have already spent months in the hospital NICU. The Endowment’s gift will provide almost 650 ounces of mother’s milk to the most precious and fragile of our community.
Round Rock Area Serving Center, Food Pantry – The Serving Center provides food to indigent, low-income, homeless, and disabled people through the food pantry which has been operating since 1986. The Endowment grant will help them serve over 180 families.
