We kicked off this year’s Season of Creation celebration with a guided walk through our pollinator garden and meadow, led by Val Bugh, founder of the Fauna Project at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Val has a lifelong interest in nature and with her encyclopedic knowledge of insects, was able to answer the many questions posed by the group. Despite the hot dry season we are in, we spotted various bees, stick insects, moths, dragon flies, and grasshoppers and she was even able to tell whether some of them were male or female. She also identified several of the native plants growing in our meadow and encouraged us to continue fostering diversity there, to support insects and other wildlife.
