A Chip off the Old Block

This Sunday’s scriptures, give us some of the “building blocks” of faith. In our Old Testament reading from Isaiah, the people are advised to look to their spiritual ancestors as the rock from which they were hewn, and in our gospel, Jesus declares that the church will be built on the rock of Peter’s bold confession of faith. God’s word of reconciliation and God’s mercy are keys to the church’s mission. Paul urges us to not be conformed to this world but to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, using our individual gifts to build up the body of Christ.

If you are like me, then your faith life may more often feel rocky than it does rock-solid, yet we are called to be a chip off the old block, and like Peter, from our worship we are invited to go out into the world to boldly live our faith in the Son of the living God.
