Beneath the Cross – An Empty Tomb

“The last enemy to be destroyed is death,” Paul writes, but Christ accomplished that victory once and for all through the cross. Yet such a victory seems an inconceivable, idle tale according to Luke’s gospel. When the women arrive at Jesus’ tomb and find it empty, they are perplexed and astonished before they rejoice. Today Christ is risen, and we likewise gather together with both astonishment and joy. Christ is risen, and we have been set free from the bonds of death. Christ is risen, and we are forgiven. Christ is risen, and with the women and Peter, we are amazed for beneath the cross of Jesus is the empty tomb of Christ! Let us rejoice: Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!
