Sundays and Wednesdays in Lent: Costly Grace
Lent is a season of grace, but it is undoubtedly a COStLY Grace. “The world has been justified by grace. The Christian knows that and takes it seriously” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer). Lent is a season that calls us to take God’s grace seriously and reminds us of its full cost. Bonhoeffer coined the phrases “costly grace” and “cheap grace,” encouraging Christians to a life of costly discipleship in response to the great cost of Christ’s death on Good Friday. As Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, we are invited into COStLY Grace: forgiveness that requires repentance, communion that requires confession, absolution that requires amends. Throughout these 40 days, let us relish in the grace we have received and also respond with costly discipleship and the disciplines of Lent.

Devotions
Inspiring daily devotions for children, youth, and adults are free of charge! Pick up one or both at worship on Sundays or Wednesdays or at the church office Monday-Thursday 10am-4pm.
For Teens & Adults

We live in God’s grace in every season of our lives. This Lenten daily devotional highlights the message and theme of God’s costly grace to us. It is grace because it is freely given, but it is costly because it cost Jesus his life. “Such grace is costly because it calls us to follow, and it is grace because it calls us to follow Jesus Christ” (Bonhoeffer). These reflections help us remember the grace poured out for them on the cross of Christ for our salvation and encourage us to share the grace that we all receive through Jesus with others. Throughout the 40 days of Lent, we are called to a life of discipleship – a discipleship that bids us “take up our cross and follow” Christ.

For Adults, Children, & Families

Pick up an empty egg carton to bring home. As you follow your Lenten journey, each Wednesday (7pm) and Sunday (9am or 11am) worship, receive an egg to place in the carton. Each egg contains a Bible verse, coordinating sticker, and special keepsake representing the theme for that day. Some eggs also contain a special “sweet” surprise! Throughout the 40 days of Lent and Holy Week, these eggs will remind us of the Costly Grace we receive through Christ and our call to follow him in a life of costly discipleship.
