Join the Adult Faith in Action class beginning on Sunday, July 11th at 10am as we begin a series on our faith and homelessness. As homelessness has become more and more of a hot-topic throughout the city, we will gather together on Sunday mornings for this 4-week series to prayerfully and faithfully consider how we are called to respond. This series will include guest speakers from non-profits as well as the Travis County Commissioner, Ann Howard, and will create space for open discussion about how we can faithfully respond to homelessness in the city along with other chances to learn, reflect, and act in response to homelessness. Week 4 (final session):
Join us this Sunday, August 1st at 10am for our last class on Faith & Homelessness. Due to the latest COVID-safety protocol, we will continue to be flexible by offering an in person and online option. We will meet in the Upper Room at 10am for those comfortable coming in person (masks are required) and we will also stream the session via Google Meet (link below). Travis County Commissioner Ann Howard will join us to speak about homelessness in Austin and some future directions churches can take to partner with the City of Austin. Week 3:
Join us this Sunday, July 25th at 10am in person for our third session on faith and homelessness. We are meeting in the Upper Room. This week, Charles Green from Mobile Loaves & Fishes will join with us to talk about MLF and Community First! Village. Please come and learn with us, bring your questions, and prayerfully discern how God is calling you (and us all) to walk alongside our neighbors who are homeless. Week 2:
Join us this Sunday, July 18th at 10am in person for our second session on faith and homelessness. We will meet in the Upper Room instead of the Community Classroom for a little more space! This week, Rev. Jared Slack from The Other Ones Foundation will join us to talk about the non-profit he works for, their re-imagining of how to serve with people experiencing homelessness, and homelessness in Austin in general. Week 1:
For the first session, we will have a short bible study regarding the matter of homelessness in scripture to orient the work we do in the other sessions. We will also have a short teaching time by Cecie about the rise of homelessness in Austin as well as the history of homelessness in the city. These will help us come up with some centering questions we can curate for guest speakers who engage with people experiencing homelessness in efforts to provide housing, access to water, food, clothes, work, and more.
