Fishing in the Dark

Jesus begins his public ministry by calling fishers to leave their nets and follow him. Listening to God, trusting with our hearts, and following Jesus aren’t always easy, but Jesus’ friends who were fishermen did just that. They left their fishing nets and followed Jesus right away. They left their jobs and their daily routines, deciding to follow Jesus. How did they make such a remarkable move? Perhaps because in Jesus they sense the good news he announces: the kingdom of God has come near. All of us, who have walked in darkness, have also seen a great light and are called to follow him. Light dawns for us each Sunday as we gather around the word, the font, and the holy table. We are then sent to share the good news of this light so that others may be “caught” in the net of God’s grace and mercy.
