In the month of September, the Season of Creation is celebrated in the ELCA and churches around the world. Season of Creation celebrates the ongoing creation of the world in and through Christ, who sustains, unites, and holds all created things. The theme of this year’s Season of Creation is “Living Water.” We hear this Sunday of the triune God who creates water to nourish us and calls us to steward this gift. From the beginning God has graced us with living water in the river that flowed through Eden; at the end of all time, Revelation describes the river of the water of life flowing through the holy city; and in Christ, God offers us Living Water that gives us eternal life. As we give thanks for the gift of living water poured out upon us in baptism, we answer the call to “strive for justice and peace in all the earth” by better stewarding the waters of creation (Affirmation of Baptism).
