Sundays and Wednesdays in Lent: Let’s Give It Up for Lent!
Giving something up is a traditional practice of the season, but often we do not venture past giving up something like chocolate or wine. Perhaps God wants us to give up something more significant, and more importantly, perhaps God wants us to give up these things in order to make room for something better, more impactful… God’s steadfast love in Jesus Christ. So this Lent, let’s give up hubris for humility and greed for gratefulness. We can give up our comfort zones for confidence, jealousy for joy, and fear for faithfulness. Throughout these 40 days, let’s give it up for Lent so our hearts can grow closer to Christ!

For Youth & Adults
Giving something up for Lent is a traditional practice during the season of Lent, but often we do not venture past giving up something like chocolate or wine. Perhaps God wants us to give up some of our attitudes and actions instead, and even more than that, perhaps God wants us to give up these things in order to make room for something better, more impactful and important… God’s steadfast love in our Savior Jesus Christ. Henri J. M. Nouwen, one of the most beloved spiritual thinkers of the 20th century, wrote passionately about the steadfast love of God in a way that has touched the hearts of readers the world over. Excerpts from Nouwen’s inspiring insights are paired with original reflections and prayers in this booklet for each day of Lent. So, let’s give it up for Lent in order for God to fill us up with something better – triumphant, steadfast love!

For Children & Families
Each Wednesday and Sunday receive a card with the “Give up” theme of the lesson. Scratch off the “Replace with” theme and add the card to this puzzle. At the end of the Lent season you’ll have a poster reminding you of how to replace negative thoughts and actions with positive ones.
Giving something up for Lent is something tangible that even a young child can understand about this holy season, but 40 days can feel like a lifetime to little ones. With this special devotional book and activity, children can take it one step at a time on a path that leads to Easter. This small book will help children get to know Jesus a little better as they make their way to understand what he gave up for us on Good Friday and celebrate his rising on Easter Sunday. Each day, a special passage from Scripture tells about an event in Jesus’ life or a key Lenten theme. A footprint sticker marks the path to the cross each day and brings readers a step closer to our Savior.
