4-class series: June 3/4 – July 1/2
Wednesdays Online @ 11am
Thursdays @ 1pm, Community Classroom
We all go to worship. Some of us could be affectionately referred to as “ChrEasters”; those who come twice a year for the “big moments.” Some of us come multiple times a week for Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights. Most of us, though, fall somewhere in between the two on the broad spectrum of worship participation. As such, we have some familiarity with the patterns and happenings of worship – we sing songs, we hear a sermon, we pass the peace, etc. But, do you ever wonder why we do certain things in worship? Or where certain things that we do in worship came from? Or better yet, what “liturgy” even means? We all have preferences and proclivities, but we aren’t all familiar with what the deep historical roots and theological meanings in each of the moments of worship are. If this sounds intriguing, and you’d like to know more, you’re in luck! Vicar Ian will be walking through the four-fold order of worship, breaking down some of the history and theology behind each moment of liturgy in a typical Lutheran worship service.
This study will consist of 4 classes beginning June 3rd and 4th and concluding by the beginning of July. It will be presented in two formats: Wednesdays at 11:00 online and Thursdays at 1:00PM in-person in the Community Classroom. Grab your Bible and your ELW and come for either class or join us or use the recorded sessions for a self-guided study! Please RSVP for the online class to receive the contact information.
The class will be pulling from several references to get at the heart of the ELW. As such, there is no book to purchase for this class. If you are interested in any of the readings or references we encounter during this class, let Vicar Ian know and he will point you in the right direction for getting your hands on them.
